Rain Delays; Oh the Joy!

After a rain delay that lasted over 2 hours, the Yankees were able to get the game in. So far it is the bottom of the 7th and the are down 6-3 to the Red Sox. Lester has looked really well tonight, with the exception of two homeruns that were knocked out of the park. He has pitched 7 innings, while striking out nine and only giving up 6 hits.

Some notes from the game
  • Not a great outing by Phil. 4 IP, 7H, and 3ER probably wasn't what he was hoping for tonight. Perhaps it was because the weather conditions were lousy and he had to wait over 2 hours to pitch. Hard to use that as an excuse though as it didn't really have an effect on Lester.
  • Horrible throw by Jeter to first. Had that been Cano, people would have been killing him for his lackadaisical fielding.
  • I think Jose Molina forgot to wear his contacts tonight. Someone please lend the man a pair of working eyes.
  • Disappointed tonight by the guys at YES. In discussing the top second basemen in the American League, the announcers failed to even mention Aaron Hill of the Toronto Blue Jays. How can you discuss the second basemen within the American League East and not even slightly mention the hot start that Hill has had so far? He's a huge reason why the Jays are where they are so far.
Other notable baseball events from tonight:
  • Zach Greinke pitched another amazing game. He is now 6-0 on the season. In his start tonight against the Chicago White Sox, he pitched a complete game shutout; giving up six hits while striking out 10.
  • Marlins won tonight on a throwing error by Paul Janish of the Reds. The game lasted 14 innings and was over 4 and a half hours long.
  • Did anyone see the two guys sitting behind home plate during the Jays game tonight? They were dressed as umpires and played the part quite well. It was comical from the 2 innings I saw on ESPN.
  • Victor Martinez is freakin' hot lately! He is hitting .379 with 39 hits. This is coming off an injury from last year too.
  • Brian Tallet had a no hitter going into the 7th inning until Michael Kay used his powers to jinx him (kidding, kidding).
  • The Dodgers are 10-0 at home (not including the game tonight). How crazy is that? Torre must be having a ball in Los Angeles.

Christina, the problem with Kay is that he doesn't realize that the Jays are for real. Coney does because he played for Cito AND Leiter as well for the self same reason. Mike Francesa praised Hill on Mike Up yesterday so Hill got props on Yes albeit on a different show.

Kay spoiling the no hitters ,unh!?? He's gotten heat for that BUT quite frankly what can one do? Ironically, I don't believe in jinxs, so whatever. Kay or Sterling do say during the game, really doesn't effect it in my eyes. Then again, Kay should spend more time talking about Jen Aniston then a no hitter!

Very true about Kay. I am glad though that Leiter and Coney at least can recognize that this hasn't been a fluke so far. Yes it is early, but I like that the team has come together despite all of the injuries they have been dealt with.

As for Kay, I think it is more or less funny now to rib him for that after the big tirade he went on during his radio show.

Bad game by the Yankees today. Edwar was awful. He had his usual walk a couple guys outing. He probably gives up a big hit had they not put Coke in. Edwar has a 2.23 WHIP. He's allowed 23 baserunners in 10.1 IP.

Papelbon has been surprisingly hittable all season, but teams just don't get that big hit vs him.

Despite the loss there were 2 good signs. It was good to see Teixeira hitting and maybe just maybe we might actually have a long relief pitcher. Aceves could be that guy.

As for Torre, I'm happy for him. Him and Manny must be having a great time. Red Sox and Yankees is a battle of 2nd and 3rd place teams... Torre and Manny's dodgers are simply cruising along to the majors best record. (11-0 at home and 19-8 overall)

Those two guys behind the plate tonight in Toronto were amazing. Where the hell do you even get an Umpire's outfit, anyway?

Pape is like the relief version of Dice-K. He makes you very nervous BUT gets it done in the end anyway. The Yanks are 0-4 against the Red Sox so far....strange? Then again the Yanks have holes particularly the bullpen. It's almost been like a rollercoaster ride this year for them. One good performance from the pen, one bad. If the Yanks don't make the playoffs it will be two reasons: A the bridge to Mariano is beyond faulty especially without Bruney. Their clutch hitting is deficient as well.
