Roy Halladay: AL Player of the Week

"Ace righty goes 2-0 with 1.13 ERA for first-place Jays"

Well, that is sure a title. We all know Halladay is one of the best pitchers right now (next to Johan Santana and Zack Greinke) and it is great to see him receive the award of AL player of the week. The Jays have been off to a hot start and are there because of Roy Halladay. His record of 8-1 is the best in the major leagues and he has shown dominance out on the mound.

"Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, who crowned his week by becoming the Major League's first eight-game winner, was chosen as the American League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America for the period ending Sunday.

Halladay went 2-0 last week with a 1.13 ERA to keep the Jays atop the AL East.

Doc's week began on Tuesday with his first complete game of the season, a 5-1 victory over the Yankees, and concluded with Sunday's seven-inning effort in an 8-2 victory over the White Sox.

In-between, Halladay observed his 32nd birthday, on May 14, but obviously isn't conceding anything to age. The 2003 AL Cy Young Award winner is 8-1 with a 2.78 ERA and has 57 strikeouts in a Major League-high 68 innings." The rest of this article written by Tom Singer can be found here.

  • Side note: Some lady claims that she caught the swine flu after attending a Mets game. I think Mike Francesa would agree to stay away from Shea. I heard he went on quite the tirade during his show today about how bad the Mets have been playing.
  • My boy, Matt Holliday hit a 3 run blast in the 11th inning to give the A's a win over the Rays. Gotta love him.

I think this is becoming a Blue Jays blog. ;)

Maybe that explains why Ryan Church forgot to touch 3rd base last night. He sure is in Jerry Manuel's dugout. Great, classic tirade by Mike Francesa today about the Mets.

Problem about Mike is that he is a Mets hater deep inside. He's waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop on them. The Yankees don't get slagged like the Mets do on his show. Church is a good clubhouse guy and a good player whereas Manuel is really a dolt, pure and simple. Look at what happened to him in Chicago. He threw a player like Church under the bus for what? He doesn't like the fact that Church is a nice religious white guy? I don't know what it is BUT in NYC the press loves him much more than the fan base does.

Cool, that you gave props to the good Doctor. He is a great player and I really like what he brings to the Jays. Hopefully, the Jays can keep it up this year. ironically their pitching is great. quite sad that Tallet's stellar effort went for naught.

Congrats to Halladay. He's amazing. Him and Santana are 1-2 in my opinion for best starting pitchers in baseball. They've been dominating for years.

In this era of pitch counts, Halladay is like an old school pitcher. You can count on him going at least 7 innings for a start. I wish there were more pitchers like him. I don't like it at times when pitchers go 5 or 6 innings and garbage middle relievers decide games.

As for the mets, they're a mess. They find ways to lose. One night it's bad fielding, another day it's no clutch hits, another day it's lousy pitching. Plus, they lost Delgado for a while.
