Further procrastination of my paper...

To pry myself away from the ever-distracting computer, I decided to attempt to write my paper outside on the deck before I had to go to a party. Since the Yankee game was on at the same time, I decided to put the radio on so that I could listen to my two favorite radio personalities: John Sterling and Suyzn Waldman. It's always a joyous time when I get to listen to Sterling paint a visual picture of the game as he often sees it (which is unfortunately not often close to the actual game that is being played).

I have to admit, they weren't too bad today, during the 4 innings that I listened to them. I like how Suzyn gives you information about the other games that are being played around baseball, more specifically info about the Jays games. I didn't realize that Hill was 0-25 and it was nice to hear updates on how Halladay was pitching.

It was also cool to hear the homerun call that Sterling has for Nick Swisher. I found myself cracking up at his rendition of "Hes Swish-a-licios." I will admit I held my breath wondering if the homerun was actually going to be a homerun...... Today was apparently water bottle day giveaway at the stadium, and Suzyn was quite puzzled on how much the water bottle looked like a baby bottle... Hmm, I wonder...

It is funny because I used to watch the baseball games while I was working at my old job. Since the sound on the TV wasn't great, we would mute the game on the TV and turned the radio on. For the most part I would watch the game but when there was a customer I would sometimes have to leave the vicinity of the screen. It was often comical because there would be instances in which I wasn't watching the game but I would hear the play from the radio. After hearing the call, I would run to the TV (since the radio is about 3 seconds ahead of the television broadcast) and would often find myself wondering if I was watching the same game that John Sterling was seeing. Since I doubt the television is distorting the game, it must be John's eyes that are slowly failing on him.

You must have alot of will power. Listening to the game on the radio just doesn't cut it for me.

Sterling and Waldman are always entertaining.

Good day of baseball and good luck with that paper!

Not really a fan of either Waldman or Sterling. A bit too homerish for me. It is sometimes too painful to me to hear him say: Jorgey juiced one or an a Bomb from Arod. Funny how he recently mistook a home run from Godzilla as an a Bomb from Arod. I enjoy the Daily News Fifth because the radio team usually has a pretty good convo about the team with Feisand or McLaren or whomever. The only saving grace is when Sterling gets into his off topic mode. I much prefer the TV crew, because Singleton, Leiter, Flaherty and Co are less homerish and give great analysis into the game as well.

I grew up on the late Harry Kalas(who did the Phils) who was no homer BUT told it like it was. Gary Cohen/Howie Rose did /do an excellent broadcast for the Mets. And the Toronto radio guys are pretty objective.

Didn't John Sterling (real name Harry Moskowitz, I'm not joking)call Swisher Old St Nick when he knocked one out a couple of times? Swisher swishes one out of the ballpark! Swish-a licious,HAHAHAHA....

I heard the call he did on Mike Francesa in which he called Matsuis HR an ABomb. He gets way too ahead of himself when he is announcing.

The TV crew that YES has is by far better but its also good that they have actual baseball experience.

I haven't heard any other broadcasters but from what I have heard from other people, Harry Kalas was great and was beloved by the organization.

Yeah, he did. Swisher I heard hated the call and Sterling changed it. I dont blame him though.

Kalas's voice was so unique. As you probably know he was the voice of NFL films as well. The thing I loved about him was that he was so honest about the status of the Phillies. If they sucked, he basically said they did! If they were great ,he admitted that ,too. He was one of a kind for sure.

In all fairness, all announcers get on my nerve eventually. Even Michael Kay's "if it's fair, it's..." is starting to get on my nerves.

Great game tonight, although I was disapointed to see Hughes go only an inning. He sure did look great coming out throwing absolute bullets to the corners.

Josh- he sure did look great. They are going to hav to get him out there for more than 1 inning though if they plan on keeping him sharp.

Bruno: Kalas was indeed one of a kind and he will sorely be missed around baseball.

Someone write this paper for me!!!
