Nothing But Class

Congrats to Derek Jeter tying Lou Gehrig with 2,721 all time hits. Since his arrival to the major leagues in 1995, Jeter has been nothing but pure class for this organization. It's a treat to say he passed through this area, once being a member of the Albany-Colonie Yankees.

And now look at him. He is sharing the stage with some of the greatest Yankees of all time. What an accomplishment.

I love Derek Jeter.

I agree with eyebleaf. Total man-crush on Jeter. Good find with the pics Christina. Why didn't your mom take you to see him playing for Albany?!!!

I had a Jeter rookie card but apparently they made like 13 different rookie cards for him so doubt it's worth much. No clue where it is now.

I can't wait to hear Sterling and Kay's calls when he breaks the record. It will be hysterical. Too bad he won't break it on a FOX or ESPN game-Kay would have a total hissy fit that he couldn't call it. Sterling and Kay will both go insane and who knows what Suzyn will do, LOL.

Congrats to Jeter!

Awesome pics of Jeter. Somewhere in storage I believe I have a Jeter rookie card.

Looking forward to seeing Jeter break that record. We're watching a Yankee legend.

Seriously, I love the man. He owns New York City. What a hero.

For some reason, he's booed in Toronto. I've never understood it. And I certainly don't condone it.

Is there another guy you want at the top of your batting order?

Damn. Mad Jeter love. So much so that I commented twice.

People hate on Jeter coz he's the guy women want and he's such a Golden Boy! I don't hate on him BUT he is very hyped up. Bleaf, booing Jete in TO is a ritual because he plays for the evil empire! what should they do cheer when the franchise has had so many dissapointing years? I think not.......

Jeter has about 2000 more AB than Gehrig? It's not a big deal to me this record because of that fact. what if Gehrig didn't get ALS? what would have happened then. I knew Lou Gehrig AND Derek Jeter is no Gehrig!

Some Yankee homers are putting Jeter in the top 5 or greatest Yankees of all time?!!! I thought Yankee fans have a sense of history? Jeter better than Ruth? Mantle? Gehrig? Dimaggio? I mean even Munson, for Chrissakes! No way so how is he the best of all time.

Eye: Coming from a Jays fan, I love the respect you have for Jeter. The guy is pure class and plays his hardest. How can you not have respect for that, regardless of what team you root for?

Commish: I am curious to hear how suzyn reacted to the hit. SHe probably was in tears.

Bruno: I do agree with what you are saying. i think the team he was on has really helped definie him as a player. Would he be looked up as this much of a great player if he was a Pirate? probably not. Regardless of that though, you have to respect how he plays the game. Not sure where you go with his all-time status and rank, but as a baseball player he handles himself quite well. A heck of alot better than A-Rod ever has.

Christina, I have no real problem with Jeter. My brother's friend met him at a bar in Manhattan years ago and asked him for Mariah Carey's phone number...and Jeter laughed! Whatta a cool guy. He is a very classy guy THOUGH he didn't have Arod's back when it was aginst the wall. That was UnJeterlike to say the least. Then again, Arod could have handled himself better during his Yankee tenure......

I had heard some hype recently regarding Jeter being the greatest Yankee of all time, that's why I brought it up. Let me make it clear, Ruth was the greatest Yankee of all time. PERIOD. End of conversation. I think Jeter is a great player and cool guy BUT he ain't Ruth, Dimaggio, or Mantle. Even some people who lived during the Mattingly years, even put Donny Ballgame above DJ!

@ Eyebleaf...do Yankee fans cheer on Halladay when he pitche sin the Bronx? He is the ultimate Yankee killer,no? A Bronx cheer maybe BUT not a real cheer!LOL.....

Totally agree, Bruno.

I can't speak for Eye, but I know as a Yankees fan I cheer for Halladay all the time. But then again, I may have some bias as I love the man.

I am a big Jeter fan. Always have been. I think it is great that he has kept himself out of trouble and away from scandal unlike some of these historical great Yankees that have been mentioned. Just remember it is the tv hype that is comparing him to the greats, not Jeter saying he's great. I would put him up there with the greats, not at the top because I have a love for history and the game of baseball. But, he will definitely be remember just like Donny Baseball.
