Game 1: New York Yankees vs Toronto Blue Jays

Tonight: LHP Marc Rzepczynski (1-3, 3.74) vs. RHP Sergio Mitre (1-0, 7.50), 7:05 p.m. YES

Tuesday: RHP Scott Richmond (6-6, 3.97) vs. RHP Joba Chamberlain (8-2, 3.73), 7:05 p.m. MY9

Wednesday: LHP Ricky Romero (10-5, 3.66) vs. RHP A.J. Burnett (10-5, 3.67), 1:05 p.m. YES

Tuesday's match-up should be interesting. The matchup on Wednesday of Romero vs. Burnett doesn't look great on paper for Romero, but you never know with baseball, right?

  • As for the Jays, I was shocked when I came home only to see that Rios was sent to the White Sox, for literally nothing. How do Jays fans feel about that? I guess that 60 million off the payroll is what the Jays were looking to unload.
  • Aaron Hill hit his 27th HR of the year, which surpasses his career high of 17 HRs that he hit in 2007. Its amazing to see the career year he is having, especially at a time when half of the Blue Jays offense has failed to show up and deliver.
  • Brian Butterfield has some Yankees ties and also ties to the Capital Region. Not only was he the first base coach in 1994 to 1995 for the New York Yankees, but he spent the previous year (1993) as a coach for the Albany-Colonie Yankees.
  • Here's a trivia question from the YES Network broadcast. What player currently holds the record for most career hits as a Blue Jay?
  • Cano has played a stellar second base this year, and at times it is shocking to see a first basemen that can actually field a ball cleanly.
  • Check out this clip, I randomly found it on youtube. Its from an old Coca-Cola commercial that celebrated the Jays Word Series win.

Rios...unbelievable.

Love that video.

I have an unhealthy man crush on Aaron Hill.

And for the answer to your trivia question, I'm going to have to go with the best shortstop to ever play for Toronto: the one and only Tony Fernandez.

Here is my trivia question. Do you like the Yankees or Jays more?

Great post!

The Rios news was surprising, but Rios was likely more appealing to teams than Wells. So JP probably looked to shed payroll anyway he could.

Aaron Hill really has had a breakout season this year.

Jays are playing a good series. Mitre wasn't great yesterday and Joba hasn't been good today.

Keep up the great job with this blog. It's always a joy to read.

Rios, I'm estatic to see him gone. I thought that he was an overpaid and overrated player. He has a low baseball IQ, so I didn't shed a tear for him. Yes, they could have got something for him in the winter BUT Kenny williams gave the Jays a gift. Funny to hear Mike and Jon Heyman say that it was a good trade, they are both nuts!...I'm waiting to see both Peavy AND Rios blow up in William's face. williams has one ring BUT some of his moves are insane, these two are the most! Then again, see them turn around and win another world Series this year! Good riddance to Rios, don't let the door hit you on the way out, alexia!

eye: You are correct! good job. I have a female crush on Aaron Hill. Not only is he adorable but hes having such a productive season. How can you not be attracted to that and the 27 HR's that come with it?!

Shelley: No comment

Thanks Ky and Commish :)

Bruno: I was curious to see how Rios was perceived by Jays fans. I bet they wouldnt mind see Wells heading out the door as well. Too bad that pretty much wont happen.

It's too bad their pen has struggled so much this year. It was their strongpoint last season.

I think the Rios move was one that had to be made, but don't be mean to him, Bruno!!1

Bleaf, I can't help it mate. You know how I felt about both wells and Rios before. The Jays fans' angst stems from the fact that Rios never fufilled his promise so to speak. Fans were also mad that an Abreu could have been had for 5 mill and Rios and wells were tying up money by not giving value to their contract. Kay was such a dick on the radio yesterday. He is so mad that they got nothing for Rios. this comes from the guy who defends the stupid 200 million payroll for the Yankees. He was surprised to learn from Don La Greca, who went to the Toronto blogs which basically said this was a good move. Yes, the Rogers make the Steinbrenners look like paupers BUT they will probably run the Jays like one of their businesses. What the dope Kay doesn't realize is THAT the Jays can use the money for drafting and to pick up high value free agents.

Training camp in Albany is hard. Lots of nutty fans around. No wonder the Yankees left there!

Go Giants.
